How to Leave Your Smoking Habit Behind

Smoking will not only affect your health but the health of others as well including loved ones especially children. Second hand smoke can be fatal.

Chain smokers have a hard time giving the habit because they believe that smoking is the only thing that can make them happy, and because of this it gets harder to leave the habit behind despite the warming of friends and family members. Some people continue to smoke despite the health risks due to depression and lack of self discipline and control, if this is the case extreme measures have to be taken in order to remove the habit.

1. Have another hobby that makes you feel relaxed and happy

While it is true that smoking can create this effects it would provide serious health consequences afterwards, the pleasure gained from smoking is short lived and after that the consequence is much greater like migraine, asthma, lung cancer, pneumonia and other respiratory problems. It weakens the immune system and makes one at risk for other illnesses and diseases.

2. Imagine yourself enjoying the day without cigarettes, you have to believe that giving up smoking is an easy thing to do; you have to be positive that you can do it.

3. Make a list or reasons why you need to quit and post it around the house, at work and in your car.

4. Read medical journals that explain the side effects of long term cigarette smoking. Instead of smoking during your lunch break and snack time, drink coffee, or bring fruits instead.

5. Practice the art of meditation this can help you relax your thoughts. This can lead to you to become peaceful and less irritable. Consider taking yoga classes, dance exercises and other physical activities that can motivate you to move.

6. Encourage friends to create a support group. Join an existing one if you like. Share successful stories and be proud of every cigarette you have refused to take. If you did not smoke for a whole day celebrate it by going to the movies or a night out or a peaceful walk in the park.
